Sorry to hear about Don’s passing. He was ultimately responsible for my lifelong involvement in track and field. His knowledge, passion and humour made every practice and competition fun. Thanks for everything you did for me and others. RIP Hoppy. Sue Wise (Summers)

So sorry to hear of Mr. Hopkins passing. He was the reason I picked up a basketball and continued to play into my college years. He was a great coach; such a funny character. One year our whole class was made up of the kids that played on all the teams so we didn’t disrupt rotation. I still remember Mr Hopkins walking up and down the aisles while we wrote a test… with his one shoe squeaking!! I’m sorry for your family’s loss; I hope you take solace that he was such a positive influence on many many lives.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the Hopkins family. Many of my great memories of public school back in the 70’s had something to do with VP Hopkins. I was often getting called out of class early to participate in hurdles, high jump, hockey practice and other sports. I was once called down to the office and Mr. Hopkins gave me a book called “How to tell time” and told me to take it home to my bother Brian as he was always late for school…. what a great sense of humour. In shop class, I was instructed by VP Hopkins to make metal targets to hang off the nets for hockey practice as he was also one of my early hockey coaches. I have not crossed paths with Trevor or the Hopkins family for many years but wanted you to know that our thoughts are with you, and we all have such great memories of Mr. Hopkins.
