Obituary of Mario Cortis
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mario on Saturday, July 2, 2016, in his 65th year after a three year battle with cancer.Beloved husband of Anne (nee Donoghue) and devoted father of Stephanie. Mario is predeceased by his mother Rosa (Piccolo) Cortis. He is survived by his brothers William (Gwen) and Rocky as well as in-laws Adrian (Raymonde), Paul (Ann), Barb (Andy), Greg, Joan, Gene (Sylvia) and Barry (deceased) (Maryanne) as well as numerous nephews and nieces.Mario was a teacher by profession but a student at heart, always learning new skills and setting new goals. His hobbies were many and he enjoyed sharing them with his family and friends. He was an avid cyclist, skier, windsurfer, hiker, geocacher and pilot. Being tremendously devoted to his family, he spent as much time as he could exploring the mountains with them and continuously encouraging and supporting them in their own endeavours. His perseverance turned a short term prognosis into a 3 year challenge dominated with sunny love-filled days. This allowed him to take many extended trips with Anne to hike their favorite trails in Banff National Park as recently as April 2016.Cremation has taken place and a private family service is being planned for a later date in Canmore, Alberta where Mario will be reunited with his beloved mountains.Special Thanks to Dr. J Beliveau, Dr. A Tomiak, Dr. P Belliveau and the numerous medical professionals for their care and compassion throughout this journey. For those who wish, donations to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family."To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die." Arrangements entrusted to CATARAQUI CEMETERY AND FUNERAL SERVICES.
