“Life is mostly froth and bubble, Two things stand like stone, Kindness in another's trouble, Courage in your own” ~Adam Lindsay Gordon Paddy (I know her name was Mary, but family mostly called her Paddy) made those words real. I was lucky to be born into a loving family full of fun, wit, caring; people who, on a whole, thought doing the right thing was important and being kind even more so - Paddy was the shining example of all of that. She was smart and funny, thoughtful and thought-filled. If I could be half as wonderful as her some day then I will be astonishingly wonderful. Love comes into our lives in many ways, to fill, enrich, challenge, sustain, nurture, embrace, excite, comfort, cherish, and support us. Paddy did all of that and more. I lost not only the Aunt I’ve loved for as long as I can remember, but the world has lost a great champion. Why do we love when it hurts so much to lose people? You don’t turn down the greatest gift in the world just because you can’t keep it forever. I’m so glad I had the gift of Paddy for as long as I did, I wish it could have been much, much longer; I know this is true for all of her family and friends, everyone that was lucky enough to have known her. I really can’t imagine a world without her, but I must. Gone from this world, but forever in my heart where we are playing cards, having ice cream…and laughing.
