Obituary of Shirley Evelyn Barr
Shirley Barr (nee Hastie) passed away peacefully in her 85th year, on Tuesday, September 3, 2014, at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Shirley faced the last months of her life as she had lived it, with courage grace and dignity. Beloved wife of 63 years of the late Sid Barr. Devoted and much loved mother of daughter Gayle and Peter Bryson of Kingston and son Glenn and Caryli of Ottawa. Cherished grandmother of Kate (Peter Bearse) and Chris Bryson and Sam (Meaghan Bedard) and Madi Barr. Great-grandsons Aiden Barr and Daniel Bearse brought her much joy. Shirley was born on November 4, 1929 in Montreal Quebec, the daughter of Mursion (Scottie) and Evelyn (nee Arney) Hastie. Pre-deceased by her dear brother Ron Hastie (Marilyna) and lovingly remembered by her sister Doreen Jenkins (Harry) and her brother Bob Hastie (Lise). Shirley loved her large extended family very much including many nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts and uncles.Words cannot fully express the depth of our gratitude for those who provided care. The family wishes to sincerely thank the palliative care nurses of St. Elizabeth, especially Kim and Christine; the community palliative care physicians, especially Dr. Stephanie Connidis; the personal support workers from Red Cross Care Partners, especially Cheryl and Melissa; and Megan at CCAC for coordinating such excellent care. We are grateful to dear family friend, Colleen, and Hospice Kingston volunteer Fran for providing much comfort to Shirley in the last weeks of her life. We area also appreciative for the many expressions of support and kindness from wonderful friends and family members during this time. We also w wish to thank Drs. Engel, De Metz and Robinson at CCSEO for their compassionate care and especially, Dr. Brian Kain, who as her family physician, provided friendship and excellent continuity of care to both Sid and Shirley. Our family was blessed to have you all in our lives.Cremation has taken place to be followed by a private family funeral. For those who may wish to make a donation in her honour, Shirley was a lifetime member of the Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary and a dedicated volunteer at the hospital.Love is Eternal Over All.
