Obituary of Stephen Gordon Potts

Passed away peacefully at home with family by his side, on Thursday, July 23rd 2020 at the age of 76. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Donna of 25 years, dear father of Marni (Brian) and Kristie. He was the proud Grandpa of Brad, Clive, Sam, Luke and Natalie. Steve is also survived by his stepdaughters Angela and Stacey (Darren). He leaves behind his only brother, Bob, his niece Sherri and special cousins. Steve is predeceased by his dear parents, Sam and Janet (Smith) Potts. Steve was born in Orpington Kent in the UK. His father, Sam was a Canadian soldier who served Overseas during World War II. Sam met Janet and she became his war bride. Steve was born during a war raid over his grandparents' house. After the war Sam brought his new family to Canada where they started their new life. Steve was an avid sports fan. When he was 16 he played baseball for the Kingston Ponies. They won the championdhip that year! Steve also had a passion for music. He became the drummer for the Monarchs, a popular Kingston rock and roll band in the 60's. They played at many of the local high school dances, and the Gananoque Canoe Club and other venues. They also played weekly on CKWS TV "Teenage Dance Party". Steve was a die-hard fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers as early as grade 8 when the World Series was broadcast on the PA system to the delight of the students. Most students cheered for the NY Yankees, not Steve, he chose to be different and cheered for the Dodgers. When the Dodgers moved to LA, so did Steve's support of them. Many times he sat up into the early morning hours watching his beloved Dodgers because of the west coast time schedules. Steve was also a passionate fan of the Montreal Canadians. He told many stories about Henri Richard, Mauruce Richard, Guy Lafleur, Ken Dryden and his all time favorite Jean Beliveau! Steve loved cruising by boat the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. He loved to be on the water. Steve worked for Canada Post as a letter carrier for 34 years. There he met many of his life long friends. Steve's outgoing personality lead him to meet people of all ages and backgrounds. Steve suffered from many different health issues over the last few years. He was fortunate to have been cared for by his amazing family physician, Dr. James Beliveau. As his health deteriorated he was cared for by the Southeast LHIN, St. Elizabeth's Health Care and Community Palliative Care Teams. As well as the many PSWs that spent time with him in his home. He viewed each of them as friends. His family would like to thank each and every one of them. A special thank also goes out to all of Steve's "Postie" friends other good friends for all of their support especially over the last year. An outdoor funeral service will be conducted at the Cataraqui Cemetery on Tuesday July 28 at 1:00 pm. The Reverend Bram Pearce will be officiating. Please gather at the Cataraqui Cemetery main office by 12:45pm.
