Obituary of Donald William Dunn
DUNN, Donald William (D.W.) B.A.H. (Queens University), Ph.D. (M.I.T.)
Formerly with the National Research Council, R.C.A. Band Fort Frontenac (W.W.II). Born April 10, 1923, in Kingston. Passed on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Son of the late William John Dunn and the late Ella Beatrice Johnston. Predeceased by sisters Marion Dunn and Eleanor Dunn. Member of the American Mathematical Society, Kingston Horticultural Society, Kingston Jazz Society, RCHA Brigade Association. D.W. carried out theoretical research under NASA contracts at M.I.T. and John Hopkins University, continued this research at the National Research Council Aeronautical Division until 1965, then worked as an applied mathematics consultant. For over 20 years he was a reviewer for the journal’s Mathematical reviews and Applied Mechanics reviews. He will be remembered by his cousins, his neighbours, close friends and colleagues in Kingston and surrounding areas with whom he shared many memories with. A big thank you to all the doctors, nurses and psw’s at KGH and Providence Care and to all who provided compassionate care.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Cataraqui Cemetery on Wednesday, August 21st at 11:00am. For those attending please meet at the cemetery office (927 Purdy’s Mill Road, Kingston) for 10:45am. Memorial donations would be appreciated to Martha’s Table or the Kingston Horticultural Society.
A celebration of life will take place in September, more information to come.
