Obituary of Michael Arthur Godin
We are sad to announce the passing of Michael Arthur Godin, who passed from cancer at the age of 88, on August 22, 2023, in Kingston, Ontario.
Michael was a devoted husband to his wife, Dawn.
Michael will be deeply missed by all of his children: Wendy and Steve Godin, his children from his first marriage; and by his stepdaughters, Karen and Lara Wigmore, from his marriage to Dawn.
Born to parents Cora and Albert in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, on May 30, 1935, Michael was the fourth of eight children (Peter, Bob, Frank, Sylvia, Sandra, Judy and Coralie). Michael studied mechanical engineering at St. Francis Xavier University. He was a much respected public servant, working in a leadership role at Small Craft Harbours for Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Michael was a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and of peanut butter cookies. Over the years, Michael’s hobbies included golfing, gardening, reading, making home improvements, listening to CBC Radio, watching sports, and taking care of his beloved pets. Rain or shine, Michael and his dog, Winnie, were often found winding their way through the streets of their neighbourhood during their daily walks. It was during these walks that Mike developed lasting friendships with members of his community. Mike will be cherished by all who had the good fortune of meeting him.
The family wishes to thank the palliative care team at Providence Care Hospital, for their kindness and compassion in caring for Michael.
The family welcomes donations to ElderDog Canada as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers. ElderDog Canada (https://elderdog.ca/donate/) is a national, registered charitable organization dedicated to ageing people and ageing dogs. While in hospital, ElderDog made several visits possible so that Mike could share final tender moments with Winnie.
