Words cannot adequately express the loss of Marcel. He was a caring and generous man. His caring was manifest in his love of Willie and family, his deep concern for social justice and his sensitivity to anyone who cannot care for themself. His generosity was manifest in his hospitality and always being there for anyone who came to him for support. His partner in caring and generosity was Willie. And I will be eternally grateful, as a friend, to both of them for having been a beneficiary of their caring and generosity.
I don’t know of anyone who is/was more widely read, particularly on social and political matters. Amongst the many precious memories from our friendship is one that relates to Marcel’s knowledge acquired from his reading. Whenever I wanted explanation on some socio-political matter, or wanted to debate some socio-political matter, Marcel was there for me!
Losing someone like Marcel is deeply saddening, but that sadness is overshadowed by the fond memories and thoughts of having had the privilege of such a meaningful relationship with a wonderful human being.
