Obituary of Adelheid E. Pietzarka
Heidi Pietzarka, a woman of indomitable spirit, passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023.
Predeceased by the love of her life, Hans Pietzarka (2009). Mother of Siegfried Pietzarka (Liz), Cornelia Whittaker (Brian), Diana Pietzarka (Barry) and Stephan Pietzarka (Tracey). Oma to Aileen (Jason), Jason (Lori), Dietrich (predeceased), Nikki (D’Marcius), Miranda, Zachary, and Joshua (predeceased). Great Oma to Anna, Konrad, Isabella, Loken and Hans. Heidi will be remembered by family in Germany and Canada including her nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be fondly remembered by Dr. Ingrid Hecht, Gisela, Ilona and Catharina.
Heidi was a courageous woman, who with her husband and two young children defected from East Germany, eventually immigrating to Canada in 1957. Learning a new language and customs was not easy, but Heidi did so with determination and grace. All who knew Heidi would acknowledge her unfailing support of her husband; he truly was her #1 priority, and she was his "sunshine". Together they founded Universal Garage in 1966.
Heidi was a lifelong learner and began piano lessons and university courses in her later years. Heidi's love of beauty was evident in her gardens, needlework and her sense of style. Beloved by her birds and family pets, Heidi was ready with treats for all.
Heidi was, and still is, an inspiration to her family. Her childhood in wartime Germany left her with both a unique approach to life and a will to live that cannot be forgotten.
We will miss the joy she brought to our lives.
In keeping with Heidi’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
If desired, donations can be made to the Kingston Humane Society or Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre, in memory of Heidi Pietzarka.
Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there
