Obituary of Judi Rouse
Judi (Judith M.E.) Rouse, a beloved member of the Kingston community, passed away on February 28, 2023, at the age of 72. Judi was the eldest daughter of Bibiana M.C. Murphy (Lawn, Nfld.) and Herbert F. Rouse (Belleville, Ont.). She was sister to Stephen, Charlie (Arvella), Monica (Lonergan) and Midge. Judi was a special Aunt to Amy and a honourary Aunt to Julian.
Judi was a remarkable person who touched the lives of many as a community volunteer. Disabled in her early 30’s Judi sought new ways to contribute to society. She helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Almost Home and the charities affiliated with the Kingston Community Spirit Bingo. She supported social justice causes and was an active member of the New Democratic Party volunteering in provincial and federal elections. Her contribution was her kindness, generosity, good spirit, big smile and big laugh.
Judi left us knowing that she was well loved and would be dearly missed. It is with heartfelt thanks that we, her family, thank those who supported her. We thank the staff and volunteers of Providence Manor for their compassionate care. She felt that she had found a new home on Montreal 3. She valued the sense of community, appreciated its spiritual base and found joy in participating, playing cards and word games and calling bingo. Judi was a phenomenal Scrabble player who rarely lost a game.
We thank all the staff, medical and non-medical, the Spiritual Health Practitioners and volunteers who cared for Judi during her hospitalizations at KHSC but especially at the ICU during her last illness. It was a very difficult time but we too felt their compassion and support.
Judi did not want a funeral service. Instead she would like those who remember her to consider making a donation to Almost Home or Providence Manor.
