Obituary of Marilynn Jackson

Marilynn Jackson, our beloved “Energizer Bunny” passed away peacefully at Rideaucrest Home. Her life spanned from 25 May 1925 to 6 February 2019. She is predeceased by her husband of 59+ years, Bruce Jackson in 2009. She is survived by her brother Jack Jerome Bradley of Niagara Falls, and her cousin Sheila Cudworth of Nottingham, England. She’ll be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and kindred spirits too numerous to list.Mom leaves to mourn four daughters:#1 The eldest daughter - Christine Jackson (Cesar Rego) of Orangeville. Grandchildren: Bill Bevens (Barry Richardson) ; Paula Bevens Rutter (Mike Rutter). Great Grandchildren: Bryce and Brandon.#2 Marcia (Jelle Blom) of Ottawa. Grandchildren: Melissa of Ottawa ; Katrina (Jesse Coss) of Ramona, California.#3 Cate (Richard Clarke) of Kingston.#4 Susan (Per-Ake Persson) of Kingston. Grandchildren: Philip of Ottawa ; Erik of Kingston.Marilynn was a proud 1947 Graduate of the Training School of Nurses at Niagara Falls General Hospital, and maintained many nursing friends. She was nursing at the very cusp of the use of antibiotics and psychiatric care. She was always interested in advancements, our own “history of medicine”. Her credo was “no muss, no fuss, and wash your hands!” She applied her knowledge to her chosen career for just a few years, but left that behind to raise her family in Kingston alongside her Beloved Bruce. Mom has always been a very intelligent, articulate, social butterfly, willing to share advice and time with anyone who required it. She surrounded herself with a rich tapestry of friends. The front door at the Jackson home should have been revolving, as there was a constant flow of friends and family, and hi jinx usually ensued. We spent the summers in the Thousand Islands on the cruiser, or at the cottage on Downey Island. Mom hated boating with a passion, however she endured it since she knew that Dad and we girls loved it. Mom was a master in the kitchen - her pies were legendary. We often heard “set another place at the table girls - so-and-so is joining us” Marilynn was an avid reader until the end, and her interests varied, creating stimulating conversations. She did her last crossword puzzle on 17 January, but then a rapid decline followed. Mom and Dad raised 4 dogcrazy daughters. Special mention to 5 grand puppies, and 2 great grand puppies, not forgetting a growing flock of chickens in California. Mom delighted in tales of their shenanigans. She was surrounded by Love of many Friends, Family and exquisite care by the team at Rideaucrest. Mom enjoyed her 4th floor view of the gardens and the waters looking across to Barriefield - to the utmost. Mom maintained that “Rideaucrest is the place to be”, and we daughters are so grateful.According to Marilynn’s wishes, Cremation and Care entrusted to Cataraqui Cemetery on Purdy’s Road with no fanfare or service. A private interment will happen in late spring, early summer for family and friends when Marilynn will be laid to rest in peace beside Bruce. Mom exhibited dignity, humour and compassion particularly in her last few years. We can learn a lot from her approach to life. She always said to her daughters “Just remember what I taught you”, and rest peacefully Mom, we will. Arrangements entrusted to CATARAQUI CEMETERY AND FUNERAL SERVICES.
